The Athletic released their list of the "10 worst contracts in the NHL" for this upcoming season and Seguin takes the cake. The 2011 Stanley Cup champion could have a bounce back season, but no matter how well he bounces back it still likely won't be worth his $13 million dollar salary.
Seguin, 30, is coming off his worse season since his rookie year. Seguin was limited to 24 goals and 25 assists this season for a total of 49 points in 81 games. A pretty tough pill to swallow considering the fact that, not long ago, he was a consistent 70+ point player.
With five years remaining on a $78 million dollar contract, the six time All-Star will definitely have to tighten his skates if he wants to regain any trust from management in the near future. If not, GM Jim Nill may be forced to part ways with the centerman for the best he can get - even if it's just "future considerations".
Somewhat surprisingly, there are no Leafs listed in the top 10 worst deals in the NHL. I'm sure some had felt as though Tavares would be on this list, but the Leafs' captain still provides excellent value for his $11M cap hit, even at 31 years-of-age.
Seth Jones comes in at #2, followed closely by Jeff Skinner at #3. Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Darnell Nurse round out the top 5, while Colton Parayko, Erik Karlsson, Zach Werenski, Nick Suzuki and Ben Chiarot rank 6th-10th in that order, per Dom Luszczyszyn's model.
