With the Rangers down 3, with just over three minutes left the second period, captain Jacob Trouba delivered a massive but questionable hit to Chicago's Andreas Athanasiou. Trouba caught Athanasiou as he was exiting the Chicago zone with a nasty hit, which sent Athanasiou flying and was immediately met with confrontation by Jonathan Toews and all hell broke loose.

Trouba has always been known for throwing massive hits, whether along the boards or in the open-ice. He has always been able to tip-toe on the line of supplementary discipline, so far only being suspended once back in 2017. He has, however, delivered more than a few questionable hits in recent memory. While he has avoided any supplementary discipline in recent years, his hit on Athanasiou may lead to his second suspension for an illegal check to the head.

At first glance, he appears to hit Athanasiou with his shoulder in the chest, but the reverse angle clearly shows that the head was the main point of contact. His skates also left the ice. Athanasiou got right back up after he collected himself for a few seconds, but that shouldn't stop NHL Player Safety from holding a hearing with Trouba. Player Safety has yet to notify anyone that Trouba is having a hearing, but that could come as early as today.
