There was a bit of a scary moment for the Leafs towards the end of the second period as goaltender Erik Kallgren took a puck off of the head/neck and was doubled over in pain after the play.
Kallgren needed several minutes to gather himself as he was being attended to by a Leafs trainer. Ultimately, the rookie goaltender came out of the game at the end of the second, with Jack Campbell replacing him after a busy night in Tampa on Monday.
After the game, Leafs bench boss Sheldon Keefe had a bit of an update on Kallgren. Thankfully, the 25-year-old was fine, albeit a little stunned on the play. Kallgren could have come back into the game for the third period, but since Campbell was already in net, Keefe decided to leave him in.
By all appearances, this is a crisis averted for the Leafs, who are already dealing with an abundance of injuries at the goaltending position. With Mrazek, Woll and Scott already sidelined, the Leafs would have had to rely on a Campbell/Hutchinson tandem had Kallgren's injury been a serious one.
