After a horrendous start to their 2022-23 season, the Vancouver Canucks are looking to shake things up and have completed a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Per ESPN's Kevin Weekes, the Canucks have acquired blueliner Ethan Bear and depth forward Lane Pederson in exchange for a 5th round draft pick (2023). Bear had been unhappy with his situation in Carolina and had requested to play or be traded earlier this week.

Bear, 25, appeared in 58 games for the Hurricanes last season, managing just 14 points and 20 PIMs. He was benched in the latter part of the season and throughout the playoffs, which led to his displeasure with the Canes. He's signed for this season at $2.2M and is set to become a restricted free agent in July. The Hurricanes have agreed to retain $400K of Bear's salary, meaning his cap hit in Vancouver will be just $1.8M.
