Yet another WJC game cancelled, bringing the total to three games in two days
Following cancellations of both the USA/Switzerland game on Tuesday and the Finland/Czechia game on Wednesday, the IIHF has cancelled a third WJC tournament game on Wednesday due to COVID-19.
Per Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Russia has been forced to forfeit its Wednesday matchup with Slovakia after one of its players has tested positive for COVID-19. The Slovaks will be credited with a 1-0 win as a result.
It's becoming abundantly clear that Omicron does not want the World Juniors to proceed, but the IIHF appears to be taking a much more cautious approach than the NHL when it comes to teams who have players testing positive.
So far, there has been only preliminary discussions of the tournament being in jeopardy of being cancelled, but if the IIHF is forced to continue cancelling games, the writing may already be on the wall.
