It's not often that the ''player scores against his old team'' thing works for the Leafs, but Zach Aston-Reese changed that on Friday, giving the Leafs the lead just past the midway point of the first period against his former Pittsburgh Penguins. It was his second of the season as he, Denis Malgin and David Kampf continue to impress as the Leafs' fourth line.

Unfortunately it wasn't enough for the Leafs as they fell 4-2 to the Penguins in the annual Hall of Fame game. Post game, Aston-Reese was asked how it felt to play his former team, to which he respond with a hilarious one-liner saying, "It was awkward. Like going to dinner with your ex-girlfriend or something like that."

As awkward as this one felt for ZAR, that awkwardness may be amplified on Tuesday when the Leafs travel to Pittsburgh for a grudge match with the Pens. Aston-Reese spent 6 seasons with the Penguins organization before being shipped off to Anaheim at the deadline last year and signing a PTO with the Leafs for training camp. His PTO turned into a 1-year deal with the Buds at a little over $840K.

As for tonight, Aston-Reese and the Leafs will have to get over the awkwardness and loss quickly as they are back in action tonight against Vancouver.
