Auston Matthews refused to answer a question about former Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe when he met with the media ahead of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Earlier today, the three-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner was named as one of the first six players to Team USA's roster for the Four Nations Cup. Following the announcement, Matthews spoke to the media where he was asked about a variety of things including the situation surrounding Mitch Marner and about his former coach Sheldon Keefe.

Interestingly enough, when asked about what he thought of Keefe being let go and his initial thoughts on Craig Berube, Matthews would not even entertain the question.

"I thought we were here to talk about the Four Nations tournament, but maybe we can revisit that in September," said Matthews with a smirk on his face.

Obviously, Matthews can't say much about Berube yet given that they haven't been on the ice together or spent any considerable amount of time together, but it is a tad surprising that he had no comment about the departure of Keefe.

Was there some sort of a rift between Keefe and a few Maple Leafs players prior to his departure in Toronto? It's unlikely, but not entirely impossible either.
