Later in the game, forward Max Domi took exception to Marchand taking yet another Maple Leaf out of the lineup. As you'll recall, earlier this season, Marchand had also slew-footed Timothy Liljegren, who missed almost 2 months with a high-ankle sprain.
Whenever Marchand goes after an opposing player or makes a dirty play, he can never follow that up with answering the bell for his actions. This time, when the Bruins captain placed a hit on Leafs blueliner Ilya Lyubushkin, Max Domi charged right at Marchand, dropping the gloves to try to get Marchand to go. Unfortunately for Domi, Marchand simply cowered away and turtled down on the ice to avoid having to pay the piper.
Regardless of if the collision was considered dirty or intentional, Marchand doesn't have a clean track record and is known for being a player who makes controversial plays every season. It was huge of Domi to answer to the Knies collision and Marchand trying to take liberties on Lyubushkin as the Maple Leafs continue to show they will not take it from anybody.
With the Leafs and Bruins likely to meet in the first round of the playoffs, Thursday night was a glimpse of what would be a highly competitive and very rough series.
