Brandon Tanev, the younger brother of Maple Leafs defenseman was thrilled to see his brother sign in Toronto, and it almost seems like he'd like to be a Leaf himself.
Reporters caught up with Brandon Tanev on the golf course in Toronto this week, and when asked about his brother, Chris, signing with the Leafs, the younger Tanev brother flashed an ear-to-ear smile and could barely contain himself, expressing his excitement to see his Chris return home to Toronto.
It could be that he's simply living vicariously through his brother, but some might look at his demeanor during the interview and wonder if perhaps he'd like to be a Maple Leaf at some point as well.
"With Chris being back home now, it's very exciting for our family... it's great to see him put on a Leafs jersey, being a hometown boy.
It's exciting. It's one of those things where you -- you know, as a kid growing up in Toronto, I'm sure everyone dreams about it and now his has come to reality. He's a great add for them and our family is extremely excited for him."
Brandon also revealed that he tried his best to just give his brother some space during the negotiation process and allow him to make the best decision for himself. Obviously, he was thrilled when Chris broke the news to him.
"When he told me, I was so happy for him. It's a great moment for him & our family was extremely ecstatic."
Brandon Tanev has 1 season remaining on his current deal with the Seattle Kraken, which carries a $3.5M cap hit. Could he become a prime deadline addition for the Leafs ahead of the 2024-25 playoffs? Could he ink a deal as a UFA in Toronto next summer in hopes of potentially playing out the remainder of his career alongside his brother as a Maple Leaf? Time will tell.
