"The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a cap crunch and there's plenty of movement coming. There's also the speculation that they're shopping for a new starting goalie along with throwing the bank at Alex Pietrangelo if he hits free agency. Both those things will require cap space and it seems one forward is on his way out because of it. Kyle Clifford's agent, Todd Reynolds, has announced that Clifford won't be back with the Leafs next year and will explore the free agent market. "He's heading for free agency. The Leafs are aware of that." Clifford came over in the trade that also saw the Leafs acquire goalie Jack Campbell back in February. He's brought great character to the lineup and some grit, however there clearly isn't enough cap space to make him happy. Did you want to see him in a Leafs' uniform next year?
Kyle Clifford will be exploring the open market, his agent, Todd Reynolds, tells me. "He's heading for free agency. The #Leafs are aware of that." TOR's financial situation has forced the issue. — Terry Koshan (@koshtorontosun) September 16, 2020
