Chris Tanev's reported cap hit has left Maple Leafs fans less than enthused about his impending contract with the organization.

The Toronto Maple Leafs traded a 7th round pick and the expiring contract of prospect Max Ellis to the Dallas Stars for Chris Tanev's rights yesterday.

As per NHL Insider Kevin Weekes, the Tanev deal seems to be coming in at a higher cap hit than Leafs fans expected.

The 34-year-old Toronto native has been defender the Leafs have been linked to for quite some time. However, at a $5M AAV for an aging veteran, I'm sure Leafs fans aren't overly thrilled. There has been many hypotheses on Tanev coming in at $4M AAV or less on a long-term.deal, and for a cap strapped Leafs team, the extra $1M is vital.

As the deal is not official yet, let's hope that Tanev comes in at a lower cap hit than is being reported by Weekes.
