We've heard lots of chatter regarding a possible trade building up between the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues over the last couple of months. Of course with Blues' forward Vladimir Tarasenko getting injured changed the dynamics of any Blues potential trade not just with the Leafs. The rumoured target for the Leafs has been defenseman Alex Pietrangelo. The Blues' captain has yet to sign any sort of contract extension with the Blues. Much like the Leafs, the Blues have some salary cap issues heading into next season with only $7million available for next season at the moment. One suggestion out there is that the Leafs will wait until free agency and make a push for Pietrangelo. It won't be cheap as the defenseman is expected to make around $9million a season on his next contract over six years. The Leafs also only have Morgan Rielly signed for next year on their blueline, add to that the fact they only have 10 players signed for next year on their current roster with $15million in expected salary cap space.
