Dubas Confirms Leafs' Negotiating With Jake Gardiner On New Deal.

"Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner is one of the most polarizing players on the team. You either hate him or love him and plenty of Leafs' fans hate him for his performance against the Boston Bruins in last year's playoffs. However, the Leafs defense is thin and it's not exactly easy to land a top four defenseman, so when he becomes UFA after this season, he might not actually be going anywhere. Leafs' general manager Kyle Dubas took some questions today and was asked about Gardiner's status and the Leafs GM wants him around. "We would like him to be here; it's not as simple as it sounds. You only have a certain amount you can divvy up and it's trying to make it all work and keep our team on the right path moving forward."Looks like Gardiner will be required to take a hometown discount if he wants to stick around.
