Easton Cowan decided against attending London Knights training camp in favour of preparing as much as possible for Maple Leafs training camp which is set to kick off in a little over a week.
Cowan seems to be putting everyone on notice that he intends to steal Nicholas Robertson's spot in the lineup. Cowan has been putting in a ton of work this off-season and his trainer Trevor Williamson sat down with TSN's Mark Masters Friday afternoon to discuss how Cowan has prepared for this season. In that conversation, Masters asked Williamson who he would compare Cowan to.
Both on the smaller side, Konecny and Cowan were drafted in the latter half of the first round and had career years in their D+1 seasons. Konecny had 101 points and 30 goals during his D+1 season while Cowan registered 96 points and 34 goals in his.
Konecny has become a very productive winger in the NHL scoring 20+ goals five times and is coming off of back-to-back 30+ goal seasons. If Cowan can replicate his production and play a similar style of game, Cowan may turn out to be a bigger draft steal than initially thought.
