The Toronto Maple Leafs lost a significant piece of their roster and locker room during free agency when goalie Frederik Andersen walked and signed with the Carolina Hurricanes. It was basically a switch as Petr Mrazek came over and joined the Leafs during free agency. Before players hit the market, we heard some rumblings that the Leafs and Andersen were exploring a contract extension however now Andersen himself reveals that it was never even close to begin with. «I think we were a little bit too far apart to really even get something going. I think the talks my agent and the Leafs management had were just tough. They obviously have limited cap space and wanted to pursue something else, so no hard feelings there,» said Andersen.Despite leaving on a bit of a sour note, Andersen will always cherish memories he made with the core group. «Especially with some of the teammates I've had over the years, it's been incredible. The (six) guys who were there the whole time, me, (Mitch Marner), (Auston Matthews), (Morgan Rielly), (Zach Hyman) and (William Nylander), that a big part of my time there and obviously made it really fun being there,» said Andersen. What do you think of Andersen's comments?
