Long before building a reputation for himself as one of the most feared enforcers in hockey, former Maple Leaf Tie Domi first cut his teeth in the NHL as a member of the New York Rangers.
After playing just 2 games with the Maple Leafs in 1989-90, Domi was traded to the Rangers in a deal that brought Greg Johnston to Toronto. Domi would go on to play parts of 3 seasons with the Rangers before being traded to Winnipeg in 1992, and then dealt by Winnipeg back to the Maple Leafs in 1995. Why is this relevant? You're about to find out.
On Monday, during an event in New York, an image was displayed on a screen behind some pre-arranged seating on stage, depicting the words "No Quit New York" with several past and present Rangers players displayed, including Domi.
The problem? Rather than using a photo from Domi's time in New York, the graphic designer opted to photoshop a Rangers jersey on Domi, only they forgot to change both his sleeves and his helmet, which clearly display Maple Leafs colours and even a Maple Leafs logo.
There's a possibility that maybe Domi was a late addition to the graphic or that the edits were done with the intention of zooming in closer so the sleeves and logo on the helmet weren't visible, but whatever the case, this graphic designer certainly dropped the ball here.
Domi retired as a Maple Leaf back in 2006, and still lives in Toronto, which has made attending his son Max Domi's games very easy to do and a common occurrence for the Maple Leafs' all-time PIMs leader.
