The Toronto Maple Leafs have lots of question marks surrounding their blue line heading into next year. There's no guarantee that general manager Kyle Dubas is able to make another Jake Muzzin type trade and it's already guaranteed Nikita Zaitsev is gone. Jake Gardiner is also a pending free agent who will draw lots of interest on the open market, but could he stay in Toronto when all is said and done? It's becoming more and more possible. Pierre LeBrun reported Gardiner is now 100% healthy and won't need surgery for his back situation that he played through during the first round. He adds that there's already contract negotiations in progress between the two sides but are being held up because of the Mitch Marner situation. Darren Dreger also reported recently that Gardiner's agent, Pat Brisson, is in constant contact with the Leafs.
