Leafs Defenseman Fired Up to Sign New Extension and Remain in Toronto Beyond This Season
Newly re-signed defenseman Philippe Myers, thrilled to remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs and spoke highly of the organization after signing his extension.
As the Maple Leafs prepare to face their most-heated rivals at Scotiabank Arena in the Boston Bruins, they head into the game with confidence, sitting atop the Atlantic Division with a 24-13-2 record.
One player who has earned significant praise within the organization, particularly from head coach Craig Berube, is Philippe Myers.
Myers signed a two-year extension on Friday, worth $850K per season -- an agreement that could prove to be a major bargain, as he appears to be a perfect fit for Berube's style of hockey.
Following his decision to re-sign, Myers spoke highly of the organization.
As per Nick Barden on X:
"I just love being around the boys. We got a good group, a really good team. We got a chance to make something happen this year and the goal is obviously the Stanley Cup. It's just awesome. It's amazing. It's an original-six team, and growing up, I watched them a lot on TV. It's just really an honour to be here and to represent the team."
Myers has seamlessly fit in, skating on a pair with Morgan Rielly in the top 4, playing exactly as Berube wants: a steady presence who is responsible defensively and makes the right plays at the right time.
When a player is genuinely excited to wear the Maple Leafs crest and fully buys into the team's vision and playing style, that's exactly the type of player a team wants. Philippe Myers appears to be one of those players for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
