Bowen, who has been calling Toronto Maple Leafs games since 1982, is a fan favourite across Toronto. He has witnessed many iterations of the team, including the successful playoff squads led by Doug Gilmour in the 1990s.
On X this week, Bowen expressed his enthusiasm for the hiring of Craig Berube, noting his excitement for the new style of play the Leafs will adopt under the new head coach.
Berube will introduce a different style of play compared to his predecessor, Sheldon Keefe. Under Berube, the Leafs are expected to be more challenging to play against, more accountable for defensive lapses, and will adopt a more physical approach, qualities the team has lacked in recent years.
Bowen isn't the only fan of the move, as Bruce Boudreau was also very complimentary of the Berube hire in Toronto.
Berube's new style of coaching appears to be more suited for playoff success, which is ideal for a Maple Leafs team that has struggled to play playoff style hockey and has not achieved much postseason success this decade.
