As the pre-season coasts toward a close, the Maple Leafs are set to kick off their regular season on October 9th against the Canadiens de Montréal
Montreal Canadiens . Like other NHL teams, the Leafs are making their final roster cuts.
Unfortunately, there is uncertainty surrounding the availability of Calle Jarnkrok, Jake McCabe, and Nick Robertson for the start of the season, which could delay the final roster decisions.
This situation is unfortunate for all three players. Jarnkrok has struggled to stay healthy and was in line for increased ice time as the Maple Leafs look thin on the wing. McCabe, amid rumours of a potential contract extension with the Leafs, may raise concerns if his injury issues persist, but his absence could create an opportunity for one of Timothy Liljegren, Conor Timmins or Marshall Rifai.
Nick Robertson's reported injury is arguably the most concerning situation. He has had an impressive pre-season, scoring two goals in yesterday's game for a total of five goals in four games. His outstanding performance made it seem almost impossible to keep him out of the lineup. However, when looking at his spotty injury history, it's anyone's guess as to what that might mean for the young winger if he ends up missing a prolonged period of time.
Thankfully, that doesn't appear to be the case. The injuries to this trio do not appear to be serious, according to Terry Koshan on X:
Regardless of the duration of these injuries, we hope that Jarnkrok, McCabe, and Robertson will be healthy for the start of the regular season. The Maple Leafs aim to come out strong, hoping this will be the year they achieve greater playoff success.
