Voit has done nothing but impress since being drafted in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. The small and skilled playmaking forward racked up a league-leading 81 assists and 105 points during his final CHL season. The problem is, he has dealt with a number of injuries since.
After tallying 8 points in 5 games with the Newfoundland Growlers in the ECHL this past season, Voit joined the Toronto Marlies. Just minutes into his first game, however, his season ended after taking a hit and falling into the boards. His injury required season-ending surgery.
He'll be ready for training camp and will likely start the season with the Toronto Marlies, but make no mistake about it; Voit may put his name on the map in a big way this season.
The former Sarnia Sting standout just turned 21 years old in June and isn't exactly a towering forward, standing at 5'10 and around 160 pounds. He lost a season and will need time to get up to speed. But once he does, look out.
Voit is a very a smart player with exceptional puck-handling, has solid hockey IQ and excellent vision. He can attract opposing players towards him and slow the game down or play fast, rushing up the ice. He even has a decent shot and could certainly be a little more selfish by using it. Everywhere he plays, he produces.
Voit's is not a name we have heard a lot of, but if he can remain healthy in 2024-25, he could be a difference-maker for the Toronto Marlies and could even wind up with his name on a short-list of potential call-ups this season -- although that might be a touch ambitious given his smaller frame. He'd really have to stand out and the Leafs would need to be really banged up in order for him to get a shot, but stranger things have happened. Still, even if he's able to shine with the Marlies, it could set him up nicely for a shot with the Leafs in 2025-26.
