Dreger provided a major update on the injury to Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll on Thursday morning. Woll has yet to play in the 2024-25 season as he deals with a injury that was described as groin tightness.
Despite saying last night on a radio appearance on Wednesday that Woll was doubtful for tonight's game against head coach Craig Berube's former team, the St. Louis Blues, an update from Dreger this morning has indicated that there's a decent chance Woll will get the start in the game.
Despite the fact that Craig Berube told fans not to be concerned with Joseph Woll's injury, there have been a lot of questions as the 26-year-old netminder skated throughout the weekend and early this week, but remained on the sidelines.
While it's great to hear the Toronto Maple Leafs may have more options between the pipes now, it's tough not to think that perhaps Anthony Stolarz should continue getting starts. Stolarz, who recently put up a Save-of-the-Year candidate for the Maple Leafs, has been nothing short of awesome in his first five games of the 2024-25 season. Stolarz has a 3-2 record, with a 1.83 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.
It's a difficult decision for Craig Berube to make as two reliable goaltenders is always preferable, but you hate to sit a hot goaltender. A great issue to have, but an issue nonetheless. Look for Berube's official decision to come at some point today before game time tonight in Toronto.
