After yesterday's waiver action, the Toronto Maple Leafs can breathe a sigh of relief as Matt Murray and Marshall Rifai cleared and are being sent to the minors.

While the regular season technically kicked off in the Czech Republic this past weekend, the rest of the 30 teams are gearing up for their openers later this week and with that comes roster moves in the form of waiver placements and claims.

Fortunately for the Maple Leafs, both Matt Murray and Marshall Rifai have cleared waivers and will be sent to the minors after hitting the wire yesterday. However for some other teams, they weren't as lucky.

A couple of former Maple Leafs have been claimed by other teams in James Reimer from Buffalo to the Anaheim Ducks and Zach Aston-Reese from Vegas to the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the Golden Knights lost Aston-Reese, they were able to recuperate by claiming both Raphael Lavoie and Cole Schwindt from Edmonton and Calgary, respectively.

With these moves and the recent signing of Max Pacioretty, Steven Lorentz, and Cade Webber, the Toronto Maple Leafs' opening night roster stands at$ 1 under the salary cap.

The Maple Leafs kick off their regular season campaign on Wednesday and Thursday with road matchups against the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils before hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins on home ice for the first time on Saturday.
