Regardless of what happens with the team on the ice this season, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has a massive decision to make regarding pending free agent Mitch Marner in the next 10 months, and it seems analysts and fans are equally divided on what that decision should be.
During a recent edition of the Real Kyper and Bourne, former Maple Leaf Nick Kypreos gave his thoughts on what Mitch Marner will get if he makes it to free agency. His suggestion of $13 to $14 million dollars brought laughter from co-hosts Justin Bourne and Sam McKee, which seemed to get under his skin.
Bourne appeared offended by the suggestion that Mitch Marner would command that much money. He suggested what he deemed to be a more realistic $12 million. Kyper scoffed at that and demanded Bourne explain why he would get just $1 million more than he's making now.
Nick Kypreos accused Bourne and Maple Leafs fans and haters of concocting a narrative about Mitch Marner, who recently entered into an interesting new partnership, that he says simply isn't true.
Meanwhile, fans seem to be just as divided over how the whole Mitch Marner situation should be handled.
A poll done on X, which garnered more than 3000 responses, asked where they were when it comes to getting a deal done. 45 percent of respondents said "sign him now," with another 45 saying "wait to see what happens in the playoffs." 10 percent said "let him walk."
