Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has cleared the air about a handful of the Leafs' current roster players including Nicholas Robertson ahead of Friday's Trade deadline.

On Sunday, Treliving met with reporters ahead of the Leafs' entertaining win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. In meeting with the media, the Leafs' GM did his best to temper expectations, insinuating that fans shouldn't necessarily expect a blockbuster-type of trade.
After activating Calle Jarnkok from LTIR on Monday, the Leafs have a measly $100K in cap space, meaning that salary retention is needed for any major deal Treliving wants to make. Either that or the Leafs will have to ship out a significant salary.
Players like Max Domi, Nick Robertson, David Kampf and others have all been discussed as potential pieces to move at various points of the season.
Despite earlier trade rumours, Sportsnet's Luke Fox noted in his deadline preview that the Leafs aren't actively shopping anyone on their roster.
"The Leafs aren't shopping roster players like Domi (13-team no-trade clause), Nick Robertson and Dewar (both pending RFA), or Alex Steeves (pending UFA). They'd prefer to keep this depth," wrote Fox, before adding a caveat. "If salary must be shed to bring in a player with term, however, these non-core forwards are hardly untouchable."

If push comes to shove, the Leafs, while hesitant, will move one of the aforementioned players to free up valuable cap space, but based on Treliving's comments, that is highly unlikely to happen.
The trade deadline is quickly approaching and while other teams are making blockbusters, the Leafs continue to sit on their hands, while scouring the market for the best deal available. Fans can only hope that management recognizes that this is the year to go for it and makes a big trade that helps the team go on the elusive deep playoff run. The Leafs are undoubtedly due, but with their competition all looking to improve, this is the wrong time for the organization to stand idle.
