We've heard over the last two weeks that the Toronto Maple Leafs are considering a possible William Nylander trade to Philadelphia. Any trade is of course easier said than done and the Leafs would prefer getting Ivan Provorov back in a trade, something the Flyers simply aren't willing to do. So it seems the Leafs could be looking elsewhere for defensive help. There's been plenty of chatter over the last year that the Leafs are interested in hometown boy PK Subban. Subban has two years left on his deal that carries an AAV of $9million, a number the Leafs clearly can't afford under the salary cap. However NHL insider Eklund from HockeyBuzz reports that the Leafs are still in talks with the Devils regarding a possible Subban trade and that the Devils would be more than happy to eat some of the $9million salary. General manager Kyle Dubas and the Leafs have come really close to landing Subban before and it might be the offseason that this deal finally gets done. The 31 year old registered 18 points in 68 games last year for the lowly Devils but would definitely be motivated playing for his hometown team.
