As the Toronto Maple Leafs continue their strong start to the season, leading the Atlantic Division in points, an unfortunate incident occurred in their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday evening.
There was a great deal of concern for defenseman Jake McCabe when officials instantly blew the play dead as McCabe took a shot right to the neck. He left the game under his own power but was visibly shaken by the impact.
According to Luke Fox on X:
McCabe, who recently signed a five-year extension with the Maple Leafs, has shown his commitment to staying in Toronto. The extension carries a modest cap hit of $4.51 million over the next five years.
McCabe was not on the Leafs' bench to begin the third period, so clearly the team is being very careful to determine the extent of McCabe's injury.
