While it still stinks the way his playing career ended, the Toronto Maple Leafs are taking great care of Jake Muzzin in his retirement. Muzzin was included in a list of staff updates by the Maple Leafs, and he's getting a bigger role with the team.
Jake Muzzin, who became a pro scout with the Toronto Maple Leafs following his retirement, is now moving into the larger role of Player Development.
After suffering two concussions in a short span earlier, Muzzin needed spinal surgery following a collision with Clayton Keller in 2022. He never played afterwards, and it was then that he moved into a front office role with the Maple Leafs.
Among the other moves announced by the team on Monday, Jason Taylor was been hired as a Pro Scout, Jerrod Smith as an Amateur Scout, and Scott Carter is now a part-time Pro and Amateur Scout.
Taylor spent the past three years in the same role with the Calgary Flames, while Smith was a head coach with the OHL's Windsor Spitfires in 2023-24. Carter worked as a scout with the Maple Leafs from 2009 to 2015 before leaving to become the GM of the WHL's Spokane Chiefs.
With the final moves now officially made for the Leafs, it's time to kick off the 2024-25 season in style, against the Canadiens on Wedneaday evening in Montreal.
