It appears the NHL may have a front-runner for their next expansion franchise. There have been ongoing talks since the off-season regarding the next expansion franchise coming in the near future. It was recently speculated by The Athletic and Bleacher Report about some of the top choices the NHL could have to choose from. Some of these cities included: Houston, Kansas City, Portland, Utah, and even a couple of Canadian cities such as Quebec City and Hamilton.
There is one city that appears to be a standout from the rest. This city is Atlanta, Georgia, as per Kevin Weekes, who reported there are plenty of talks on the street regarding The Gathering at South Forsyth, a project in suburban Atlanta, which could be a perfect fit for the next expansion franchise.
The South Forsyth Project in Northern Georgia has been a well thought out and planned, mixed-use development for world-class entertainment including sports like our beloved sport of hockey. With an arena already included, it would make sense to follow through with bringing the next expansion franchise back home to Atlanta.
With Atlanta being the frontrunner for yet another chance at an expansion franchise, could this be their way to redemption, or simply another failed attempt at having another long-term professional hockey team in Georgia?
