In case you missed it, on Wednesday evening during the Leafs/Capitals game in Washington, Wilson wound up and cracked Noah Gregor in the face with his stick away from the puck in what can only be described as a reckless and careless play, resulting in several broken teeth for the Leafs winger.
Today, it was announced that Wilson will be suspended 6 games for the incident, despite his immediate showing of remorse, grabbing ahold of Gregor to check on him as soon as his stick had caught Gregor in the face. As a result of his suspension, Wilson will forfeit $161,458.32 in salary.
Wilson, if he so chooses, will have the ability to appeal the suspension, which will first go through NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. If the result of that appeal isn't to his liking, Wilson will have the option to appeal to an independent 3rd party, since his suspension exceeds 5 games.
This marks the sixth time in his NHL career that Wilson has crossed a line, leading to a suspension. With Wilson out 6 games, he's effectively slated to miss the Caps/Leafs rematch next week.
