Many were shocked to hear that Sportsnet had parted ways with Marek last week, just one day after a report had surfaced from YYZ Sports Media that something may have occurred during the NHL Entry Draft that caused Sportsnet to re-think their position on moving forward with Marek.
The next day, Marek confirmed the news himself in a social media post informing fans that he'll have an announcement on his next moves coming up shortly.
YYZ Sports Media was careful not to link the Marek news to this expected wave of cuts and layoffs upcoming at Rogers Sportsnet, stating that the Marek news is completely separate from whatever comes next.
At this moment, no details have been made available about who may be cut or when the cuts and layoffs are expected to be announced, but it would appear as though several people in the industry may be out of work fairly imminently, which is a shame as the corporate big wigs continue to make away like bandits financially off of the hard work of the very people who are about to be laid off. Very unfortunate.
We'll continue to monitor the situation and provide any updates we come across.
