Last night, the Calgary Flames were in Boston to take on the Bruins and things got heated very early. With the Flames up 2-0 and four minutes to go in the first period, a scrum ensued in front of the Flames net as Jacob Markstrom went to cover the loose puck. In the process, Bruins captain Brad Marchand delivered series of hacks at the glove of the Flames netminder to try and dig the puck loose again.

The Flames, specifically Martin Pospisil, took exception and delivered what was called a cross-check to the face of Marchand. Pospisil received a major and game misconduct for cross-checking while Marchand did not escape penalty free. The notorious pest was also assessed a minor for slashing.

For everyone that is not a Bruins fan, it was a welcomed sight to see Marchand getting a taste of his own medicine. I don't condone attempting to injure another player, but with how much Marchand has gotten away with over the years and how many injuries has he caused, I was okay with the shot from Pospisil.

While Pospisil faced the possibility of a suspension for his actions, the league and Department of Player Safety announced this morning that he would not face any supplementary discipline for his cross-check. That is likely because of when it happened and the fact that Marchand didn't miss a shift, aside from serving his penalty.
