An NHL player always remembers his first NHL goal, but while most first career NHL goals are pretty run of the mill, Zach Benson's first career goal with the Buffalo Sabres was anything but ordinary.

Last night, during a game against the Washington Capitals, Benson picked up the loose puck in the Capitals' zone before streaking towards the net, tucking the puck back between the legs and then ripping one bar-down over the shoulder of a sprawling Darcy Kuemper:

With a first NHL goal like this one, you know it's going to be that much more memorable for both Benson and the Sabres. It's not too often that you see a player's first goal be of the highlight reel variety.

There were some question marks surrounding Benson in the draft, all relating to his size and whether or not he could be an impact player in the NHL at just 5'9, 163 lbs. Obviously, it's still early, but with 5 points over his first 9 games as a rookie, including his wild first tally as a Sabre, it looks like he'll be just fine.
