Senators Reveal the Extent of Nick Cousins' Injury After Knee-on-Knee with Leafs' Jacob Quillan

The aftermath of Nick Cousins' controversial knee-on-knee collision has finally been revealed as the Ottawa Senators have announced the forward will miss the next 6-8 weeks with a knee injury. Additionally, he will be getting different opinions on the injury as reported by Bruce Garrioch.

The collision occurred during Saturday's Battle of Ontario. Cousins was looking to steamroll Toronto Maple Leafs rookie forward Jacob Quillan in the neutral zone before the latter sidestepped the check at the very last second.

Moving out of the way from the bodycheck unfortunately left both of their legs unprotected and both players went down in a heap. Cousins was on the ice a lot longer before being helped off by the medical staff. He was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the game before being given an indefinite timeline to return by the club.

There were several differing opinions after the game came to a close about who was at fault for the injury. The majority, which included head coach Craig Berube and the panelists on Hockey Night in Canada, felt that Cousins got away with an obvious kneeing penalty.

However, others like former Maple Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill, felt that Cousins was put in a difficult position with Quillan trying to avoid the hit, which he believes has become an epidemic in the league.

Cousins has built a reputation around the league of being a very physical but dirty player. While he's yet to have been given a suspension by the NHL, his aggressive style of play has led to a lot of retaliatory attacks that have, in turn, become suspensions for the opposition.

With Cousins out for the foreseeable future, Quillan has also been diagnosed with an injury as he's been absent from recent practice sessions in Toronto. With the Maple Leafs getting healthier by the day, expect Quillan to be reassigned back to the minors when ready.

Based on his 6-8 week timeline, Cousins could be back before the season comes to a close. The former third round pick has 5 goals and 13 points across 47 games for the Senators this season to go along with 39 PIMs and 80 hits
