Brian Pesce seems to have indicated that his son will officially be heading to the open market when free agency opens up in 5 weeks during a post exchange with a Hurricanes fan on Twitter/X last week.
The exchange took place on May 16th, with Pesce's father essentially telling a fan that his time with Carolina is over, but promising to visit Raleigh again when Brett's new team rolls through town.
The news shouldn't come as a huge surprise, given Pesce's status as a trade candidate through most of last season.
Pesce has been linked to the Maple Leafs in trade rumours on a number of occasions, and there's no denying the natural fit there between the Leafs, who are looking to shore up their blueline, and Pesce, who happens to be that minute-munching right-shot defenseman that they so desperately crave.
The one thing that may stand in the way of the Leafs locking down a deal for Pesce is the reported contract ask, which is believed to be a long-term deal with an AAV over $6M.
We'll see where this goes, but if Pesce's father is already confirming the news on social media, he's probably headed to free agency on July 1st. By the sounds of things, he's looking to remain in the East.
