Blackhawks drop shocking update regarding Corey Perry, place him on waivers
For the last week, Chicago Blackhawks forward Corey Perry has been absent from the team and his absence has been a complete mystery to everyone aside from certain people in the Hawks organization. Perry was first a healthy scratch against the Columbus Blue Jackets last Wednesday, subsequently missed the next couple of practices and games before Chicago announced that he would be away from the team for the foreseeable future. When questions first arose about Perry's absence, the Hawks were quick to say that it was an organizational decision, but did not divulge any further information.
Perry also released a statement through his agent saying that he would be away from the team for personal reasons. Today, the Blackhawks revealed that they have placed Perry on waivers for the purposes of terminating his contract and released the following statement.
"After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Player's Contract and the Blackhawks' internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments. As such, Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers. In the event Mr. Perry clears waivers, we intend to terminate his contract effective immediately."
It is still not clear what Perry did, and while the rumors on social media are running rampant, it was clearly something that concerned the Hawks enough to swiftly investigate and terminate his contract. One of the rumours circulating had Perry engaging in unacceptable conduct with the family member of a teammate.
The 38-year-old signed a 1-year, $4M deal with the Hawks in the off-season and was meant to be a veteran presence and help support Connor Bedard.
