Everyone knows there's no love lost between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. When they meet during the season, the games are often very intense, high-paced and emotional. As it turns out, even for former Leafs, that emotion and intensity can stay there under the surface, even after a player leaves Toronto.

On Tuesday night, one former Leafs fan-favourite, Luke Schenn, allowed emotions to boil over as his Nashville Predators took on the visiting Canadiens. During the game, Schenn initiated a fight with Habs winger Josh Anderson, who was happy to oblige him. Unfortunately for Anderson, he immediately regretted his decision and Schenn made quick work of him.

There was a lot of hope this past summer that Schenn and new Leafs GM Brad Treliving could come together on a deal that would see Treliving retain the veteran defenseman in Toronto. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, thanks to a substantial offer from Nashville, who agreed to pay Schenn $2.75M per season through 2025-26 - an offer that the Leafs were not in a position to match at the time.

In the grand scheme of things, perhaps the Leafs would have been better served to have passed on John Klingberg and just extend Schenn instead. Hindsight, however, is always 20/20 and we didn't have the benefit of knowing then what we know now. Still, nice to see that Schenn hasn't lost his touch.

If you were Brad Treliving and you could go back to the summer, would you match the offer presented to Luke Schenn by Nashville?
