Svechnikov sends Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin flying with huge hit
Andrei Svechnikov became public enemy number one in the eyes of New York Rangers fans after taking a run at Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin.
The play occurred with 7:58 remaining in the 1st period when Shesterkin came out to play the puck behind his net, just after he chipped it into the corner for his defender. Svechnikov skated right through Shesterkin, making contact with his left leg, sending the Rangers netminder corkscrewing through the air, away from the empty net.
Svechnikov earned a goaltender inference call on the play, but the Rangers were quick to pursue him on the way to the penalty box to have a word with him, which ended in a full line scrum.
There are some on social media who are giving Shesterkin the gears, accusing him of really selling the hit. Regardless of where anyone stands on the hit itself, they'd be just as worked up as Rangers fans if it happened to their team's goaltender.
