The NHL Draft Lottery took place tonight in Secaucus, New Jersey, and it was a rather uneventful scene as no one moved out of place in the draft order. The San Jose Sharks entered tonight's lottery with the best chance of securing the first overall pick and they unsurprisingly came through as the victors.
The Sharks finished the season with a 19-54-9 record and need all the youthful injection they can possibly get their hands on to help the rebuild. They were also awarded the 14th overall pick that previously belonged to Pittsburgh but was moved to the Sharks in the Erik Karlsson trade last summer.
Chicago will be drafting 2nd, Anaheim to follow at number 3, Columbus at number 4, and the Montreal Canadiens round out the top 5.
Celebrini has been highly touted as the perceived number one pick this year. The Hobey Baker award winner as the best player in the collegiate circuit scored 32 goals and 64 points in just 38 games for Boston University this year. Other players to consider are Ivan Demidov, Artyom Levshunov, and Anton Silayev amongst many others.
