A trusted NHL Insider has confirmed that the Leafs are not just looking at centres, but are also looking to add another very specific player type ahead of the deadline.
Pagnotta did not dismiss the fact the Leafs are looking for a major upgrade in the top-six, but noted that they would also like to add to the bottom half of their lineup.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs want to add to their second-line, ideally at the dot, but they have also been asking around about big, physical bottom-six forwards," wrote Pagnotta.
With few coveted assets available to him, and a limited amount of cap space, Leafs GM Brad Treliving will have to get very creative if he is intending to add a top-six forward, bottom-six forward and defenseman to the roster ahead of the March 7th deadline.
Known for a more conservative approach at the deadline, Treliving will have to step outside of his comfort zone and take a major swing in the hopes of providing the team with the right pieces to go on a deep playoff run in an Eastern Conference that has never been more open during the Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander era.
