The Maple Leafs had a pair of scouts taking in one of two games on a quiet Monday night in the NHL, leading to speculation they may be nearing a trade.

After a very busy weekend returning from the 4 Nations Face-Off, there were just two games in the NHL on Monday night, with one being between the Vegas Golden Knights and LA Kings.
Given the lighter schedule, 13 teams had scouts in attendance, with the Leafs being the only team to have multiple.
The Leafs want to upgrade at centre, but in recent weeks, they have looked at upgrading their depth on the wing and blueline as well.
As The Fourth Period's Dave Pagnotta reported on Monday, the Leafs are looking for a physical, bottom-six forward and the Knights and Kings both have plenty of them.
Vegas currently leads the Pacific division with the Kings hot on their heels, so while it's unlikely they subtract from their rosters, it is still possible. Nicholas Roy and Keegan Kolesar are two forwards from Vegas that may interest the Leafs, while the Kings have Tanner Jeannot and Warren Foegele that also fit the bill of a physical, bottom-six forward.
Roy is not overly physical, but is 6'4 and 201 pounds and can put the puck in the net, as can Foegele. So they may not completely fit the physical nature of what the Leafs want, but as we have seen in the past in the playoffs, the Leafs need help offensively as well. Jeannot and Kolesar on the other hand are very physical, can kill penalties and sporadically contribute on the scoresheet.
The NHL's trade deadline is 10 days away and many believe the Leafs and GM Brad Treliving will be very active. With that being said, Treliving's moves will be looked at under a microscope in the hopes that he is able to add the right pieces to send the Leafs deep into the playoffs.
