The Toronto Maple Leafs moved their management media dayfrom Thursday to Friday this week, which has led many to believe they are in the process of making a significant decision regarding head coach Sheldon Keefe. With reports running rampant that the Leafs are interested in former St. Louis Blues head coach Craig Berube, Daily FaceOff's Frank Seravalli revealed today that if the Leafs don't act quickly, they will lose out on the 2019 Stanley Cup winning coach.
If the Leafs miss out on Berube, who sounds like their preferred candidate, would they still make the coaching change? Seravalli believes that, no matter what, Sheldon Keefe's days as the Leafs' head coach are essentially over. Even if Berube chooses the New Jersey Devils, who also have him at the top of their list, there are still a number of veteran coaches available - Todd McLellan, Gerard Gallant and even Joel Quenneville, should the NHL reinstate him. Failing to get out of the first round again essentially solidified Keefe's fate and changing of the guard so to speak and the next few days will be full of speculation and angst.
