According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, one of the changes that the Penguins may be willing to make is in goal, different direction between the pipes. Last night on "Saturday Headlines" during Sportsnet's Hockey Night in Canada coverage, Friedman noted the Pens have received interest in all three of their goalies, but particularly Tristan Jarry, who signed a 5-year deal on July 1st this past off-season that carries a cap hit of $5.375M.
It comes as a bit of a shock that the Penguins are listening to offers on the 28-year-old considering he is in the first year of his new deal. In 37 games for the Pens this season Jarry has been stellar for an underperforming Pens team, posting a .916 save percentage and 2.46 GAA even though he has a 15-17-4 record.
Although Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov has played much better since the calendar flipped to 2024, Jarry could be a long-term fix for Brad Treliving and the Leafs depending on how much Treliving believes in Samsonov of course.
Even though the Pens are receiving interest in Jarry, unless an offer absolutely blows Dubas away ahead of the trade deadline, trading Jarry may be easier said than done until the off-season and the Leafs should certainly be keeping an eye on the situation.
