After the Leafs swapped the 25th overall pick for the 38th overall pick with Chicago in order to unload Petr Mrazek's contract, the Buds drafted centerman Fraser Minten. The 18-year-old is described as an excellent two-way pivot with a physical edge to him. He is primarily a north-south style of player who scores most of his goals in tight. Standing at 6-foot-1-inches tall, he does not shy away from scrums, and is good at retrieving pucks along the boards.
Last season, Minten tallied 55 points (20 goals & 35 assists) in 67 games for the Blazers in the Western Hockey league, but it didn't tell the whole story of his season, as he was near a point per game in the second half. He then added 16 points (6 goals & 10 assists) in 17 playoff games. While Minten will likely also compete for a spot on the 2022 WJC roster, having JUST turned 18, he may end up having to wait for the 2023 tournamnt, where he does stand a reasonably good chance of making the cut there. After nearly producing a point per game in last years WHL playoffs, Leafs Nation will be watching close to see if he can take another jump at the Junior level.
