Mats Sundin did a lot of things in his NHL career, but unfortunately, bringing a Stanley Cup to Toronto was not one of them. That said, Sundin believes that the Leafs are closer than ever to accomplishing that goal. His comments about the Leafs' core are evidence of that.
Mats Sundin on the Leafs' goal of bringing a Championship to Toronto.
The former Leafs captain is the franchise's all-time points leader (987) and also holds the franchise record for most career goals (420) - though Auston Matthews seems destined to pass him at some point. Matthews already has 259 goals to his credit in just 6 seasons. 457 points as well.
Between Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and a king's ransom of young talent coming up, such as Nick Robertson, Topi Niemela and Matthew Knies, just to name a few, the future truly is a bright one. While it's certainly tough to look on the bright side after yet another first round exit, Sundin's faith in the team and the management group should give us at least a little bit of hope.
