Mitch Marner reaches out to fans following terrifying armed robbery
Less than 48 hours after his Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated in the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Leafs forward Mitch Marner luck went from bad to worse when he was carjacked at gunpoint while on his way to see a movie with a friend of his. I don't think I'll be complaining about a bad week anytime soon..
Thankfully, Marner was not injured during the terrifying altercation. The situation could have been much, much worse. Still, the shock of something like that occurring during such an everyday activity like going to a movie theater has to have Marner a bit unnerved. The fans have done their best to make sure Marner felt supported from afar, reaching out over social media to send their well wishes. On Wednesday, Marner wanted to acknowledge those fans for their concern and support. He did so in the form of an official statement released on Twitter.
"To all the fans, my friends and teammates, and the entire Maple Leafs organization - thank you for all your positive messages over the last few days. The overwhelming support I've felt from the Toronto community has been unbelievable.
I'd also like to thank Toronto Police Services for all their hard work in the ongoing investigation.
It was a scary situation to be in, but we're safe and doing well. Thank you all your support has meant the world to us.
- Mitch"
Hopefully Marner and the rest of the crew have themselves a nice summer off and come back hungry and ready for redemption in the fall.
