Knies has flip-flopped on whether to sign with the Leafs or go back to college to compete for an NCAA title next season. It was originally thought that he was leaning towards signing his ELC with the Buds, but just a few days later, reports came out suggesting he contrary.
With the speculation running rampant, a recent report from The Athletic's Scott Wheeler has raised more than a few eyebrows. Wheeler appeared to insinuate that a Knies decision is imminent in Monday's prospect notes.
On Saturday, it was announced that the Leafs were going to be meeting with Knies over the next 24-48 hours, which means that the meeting likely either happened on Sunday or will be happening today. Among those pitching Knies on signing with the Leafs are GM Kyle Dubas, President Brendan Shanahan, captain John Tavares and fellow Arizona product Auston Matthews.
It's worth noting that Knies models a lot of his game after Matthews and the two players have known each other for a number of years from working with the same skating coach in Arizona.
