During pregame warm ups, he received a puck from Nick Suzuki, which hit him in the face after it slipped through his fingers. This gave him a fat lip and Suzuki took immediate notice. He handed the young fan his stick, made sure that he got his puck, an autograph and a photo.
Leafs security sadly asked the fan for the stick as it was considered a "weapon". The fan did not want to give up his stick so he made the difficult decision to leave the game before it even started.
It's understandable that security is following the rules and such but to ask a kid for his stick or have them leave is a bit absurd. One would hope that security would've offered to hold the stick at guest services until the end of the game, but if not, it's absolutely wrong to make a child decide between keeping a souvenir or watching his favourite team play.
