Paquette has appeared in 24 games for the Canadiens this season, notching just a pair of assists over that span and racking up a -6 +/- rating. He also has 25 penalty minutes this season.
Paquette won a Stanley Cup with the defending Stanley Cup winning Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020. He was traded to the Ottawa Senators in late 2020, along with Braydon Coburn and a second round pick, for Marian Gaborik's LTIR contract and goaltender Anders Nilsson, who recently made the tough decision to end his career early as well.
The 28-year-old is not going to light the lamp very often, but he plays a hard game and throws heavy hits which can help a team in the postseason. There's also minimal risk in a team claiming him, as his $950K can be buried in the AHL (if he clears waivers) and he is also a pending UFA.
