"I was so happy for him. He's been a Leaf at heart for many, many years. He breathes Toronto and Leafs hockey... He had a great year last year, great playoffs... I think he's going to be a stud for them. I honestly do. He loves the spotlight. He loves the challenge," said Horvat of his former junior teammate.
Horvat and Domi have remained very close over the years, even though they never had a chance to play together in the NHL. In fact, Horvat revealed that Domi was actually a groomsman at his wedding. If there was ever any doubt that Domi wanted to be a Leaf for his entire career, having one of his best friends confirm that detail should put any doubt or suspicion of lip service to rest.
Horvat's comments on Domi echo the thoughts of Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, who just hours after Domi signed a 1-year, $3M deal with the Leafs, said that Domi would do whatever he could to be a Leaf for a long time. Domi is coming off of somewhat of a resurgance last season, skating in 80 games between the Hawks and Stars. He posted 20 goals for the first time since the 2018-19 season and followed that up with 13 points in 19 playoff games for the Stars.
